The Biological Processing Unit processes the organic fraction of waste and consists of:
- Anaerobic processing (digestion): the organic fraction is conveyed to sealed reactors where, in the absence of oxygen, biogas is produced. The biogas is utilised by Internal Combustion Engines, and green energy is produced.
- Aerobic processing: The organic fraction remains in special cells, in the presence of oxygen, for the production of compost-type material.
